New York Winter Antifolk Festival 2013

The New York Winter Antifolk festival starts on February 19th 2013 at the Sidewalk Cafe, and runs until Thursday 28th  February.

With the Sidewalk celebrating it’s 20th anniversary this year, the winter festival takes extra prominence. Ten days packed with acts including old favourites like Steve Espinola, Brer Brain, Prewar Yardsale, The Purple Organ, Jeffrey Lewis/Peter Stampfe, Peter Dizozza, Jon Berger and Don McCloskey. There are also some of the newer acts on the scene like Bird to Prey (pictured above) and Adam Bricks.

If I were in New York next week I’d check out these acts I’ve not heard on the strength of their name: Robot Princess, Kung Fu Crimewave, Crazy & the Brains, Dewey & the Decimals, Yossarian Feedback (is that even a name?), Cannonball Statman, The Sound of Salesmen and Dan & Rachel (with a name that boring, they must be amazing to have a good slot).

I have form here though, booking acts I hadn’t heard, like ‘Jimmy Gerkin’, for last minute slots at the London festival because they had great names. If  he was playing New York he’d have to be Jimmy Dill Pickle, but that doesn’t really work.

Anyway, here are the full details:
